XYLON 14, International triennial exhibition of artistic relief printing

Regulations

1. Purpose

The fourteenth international exhibition of artistic relief printing, XYLON 14, is designed to promote the techniques of the artistic relief printing, particularly wood cut, with emphasis on contemporary work.

2. Organisation

The City of Saint-Louis and the Association XYLON INTERNATIONAL are responsible for XYLON 14.

3. Conditions for participation

All relief-printing techniques are admitted. Combined techniques are also accepted provided relief printing predominates. Photomechanical reproductions are excluded. The size of paper must not exceed 70 x 100 cm. Works mounted on hardboard, wood, etc. will be rejected. Works must have been created not earlier than 1st January 2003.

4. Dispatch

Candidates should send two to three signed works in a strong cardboard tube bearing the official label, at their own risk and expense. The package must be in conformity of the actual postal/carrier’s regulations. The artists name and the number of the work according to the entry form must be written on the back of the prints in pencil. The entry form (in two copies) has to be enclosed with the prints and the package to be sent to the following address:

5. Contribution to the expenses

Participants, whose works are accepted by the jury, will pay a participation of 45 Euro. Payment is to be effected only after the meeting of the jury and according to instructions, which the organisers will issue at the given time.

Participants, whose works have not been accepted by the jury, will have to pay a contribution to the expenses for the return of their works amounting to 15 Euro.

In case of non-payment of this amount, the works will remain in possession of XYLON INTERNATIONAL. They will be transferred into its property after a three-year’s period.

6. Jury

A jury selects the works to be exhibited in the triennial XYLON 14. It is composed of five members: fours artists, active members of a section of XYLON INTERNATIONAL and one representative of the City of Saint-Louis. The jury’s decision is final.

7. Awards

The jury selects prizewinners and can award the following prizes:

Award of the City of Saint-Louis

1st prize XYLON INTERNATIONAL valued at 1'500 Euro

2nd prize XYLON INTERNATIONAL valued at 1'250 Euro

3rd prize XYLON INTERNATIONAL valued at 1'000 Euro

Prints for which a prize has been awarded, will pass into the collection of XYLON INTERNATIONAL. The jury retains the right not to award all prizes and awards.

8. Exhibition

The inauguration of XYLON 14 will take place in the City of Saint-Louis. Subsequently, XYLON 14 will be shown in various places in several countries. The selected works will remain in the triennial XYLON 14 up to its end (approx. 3 years).

9. Catalogue

A catalogue containing a reproduction of one work per artists will be published. Every represented artist will receive a catalogue.

The catalogue will also be presented on the internet.

10. Sales

Works must be for sale and at least five prints of each accepted work should be kept available for the whole duration of XYLON 14. Sales prices have to be stated in Euro and are firm for the duration of XYLON 14. A commission of 40% must be included in the price indicated.

11. Returns

Not selected entries for exhibition will be returned after the meeting of the jury provided that the artist has paid the contribution fee of 15 Euro. At the end of the circuit, the works exhibited will be sent back provided that the artist has paid the contribution fee of 45 Euro (see point 5).

12. General remarks

XYLON INTERNATIONAL will retain the right to reproduce works or parts thereof for non-commercial purposes. Participation in the event implies acceptance of these conditions.
